Headaches and migraines are one of the most common ailments that people experience. Even a seemingly healthy person can feel from a sudden onslaught of pain in the head area, or collectively called a headache.

Headache is defined as a pain experienced in any part of the head. It may occur in side or both sides of the head. Headaches can be isolated to a specific part of the head, radiate across the head from one point, or manifest as vise-like. Pain caused by headache maybe a sharp pain, a dull ache or a throbbing sensation. They can both develop gradually or suddenly and last on a varying length of time – from several minutes to several days.

On the other hand, migraine is defined as a type of primary headache disorder categorized by recurrent headaches, ranging from moderate to severe. With migraine, you feel throbbing headaches. It is typically felt in only one side of the head and lasting from 2 to 72 hours. Symptoms of migraine may include a pounding headache, nausea, vomiting, or sensitivity to light, sound and smell and eye pain.

Though most people may use the term migraine to refer to any severe headaches, a migraine headache is the result of certain physiologic changes that occur in the brain. Not all headaches may be classified as migraine, as they are not the only condition that can result to severe or painful headaches.
