Types of Period Pain

Causes of Period Pain
The cause is often not clear. Dysmenorrhoea occurs when the womb’s muscular wall contracts. Typically, mild contractions continually pass through the womb, but they’re usually so mild that most women can’t feel them.
During your period, the wall of the womb starts to contract more strongly to facilitate the shedding of the womb lining as part of the monthly period. Normal body chemicals called prostaglandins build up in the lining of the womb. This process reduces the blood supply to the womb and leads to pain.
Symptoms of Period Pain
Mild to intense abdominal cramps may begin within 24 hours of the start of the woman’s period. The pain may continue for days. Symptoms of period pain include:

- Cramps that radiate from the lower back and thighs
- Throbbing or cramping pain in your uterus during the period
